Held in conjunction with the 16th Asia Pacific International Symposium on Microscale Separations and Analysis (APCE2016), LabAsia Southern, the 2nd roadshow exhibition of ASEAN’s leading laboratory exhibitions LabAsia, was recently held in the Malaysian southernmost state of Johor, one of Malaysia’s fastest developing states, from 8 – 9 November 2016, at KSL Hotel & Resort.
LabAsia Southern saw 27 leading brands and suppliers from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand exhibiting over the 2 days period, with 6 companies joining the LabAsia exhibition series for the very first time. Products ranging from table top sized electron microscopes to full sized laboratory furnishings were on display for the visitors and delegates to view.
Over the course of the exhibition, 280 visitors & delegates from various industries across Malaysia and Singapore attended, some even coming from the northern parts of Malaysia, saw decision makers from laboratory operators, equipment distributors, telecommunications, to petrochemicals and oleochemicals coming to learn about the latest products featured by the exhibitors, to aid in their laboratory planning.
APCE2016 was officiated by Prof. Dr. Mohd Marsin Sanagi, Chairman of the APCE2016 conference, in the presence of Dato’ Dr. Ong Eng Long, President of Institut Kimia Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Bing Cheng Li, Representative of the APCE2016 Steering Committee, Mr. Soh Song Chaw, Chairman of IKM Southern Branch, En. Latfi Mahmud, Director of Jabatan Kimia Malaysia, Dato’ Dr. Yew Chong Hooi, President of the Forensic Science Society of Malaysia, and Dr. Bakri Abu Bakar, Chairman of the American Chemical Society Malaysia Chapter.
The 4-day conference saw delegates from over 11 countries attending the plenary and technical sessions from 8 – 9 November. In his welcome address, Prof Dr Marsin emphasized on the importance of supporting research effectiveness through up-to-date and relevant information.
Dato’ Yew Chong Hooi, Senior Asst. Commissioner of Police (Rtd.), and President of the Forensic Science Society of Malaysia, who was present during the conference, gave high praises for LabAsia’s concept. Dato’ Yew, who has contributed greatly to the Malaysian forensics community, remarked that LabAsia Southern plays an important role to the forensics community by featuring the latest lab technologies and equipment, and to connect the various scientific communities together.
Besides the exhibits, visitors of LabAsia Southern were also able to take part in the LabAsia Visit & Win Contest, in which 2 of the best entries are selected daily to win an all-expenses paid trip to visit LabAsia 2017 in PWTC. At the end of the roadshow, 4 winners went home with free accommodations at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur during LabAsia 2017, along with travel incentives worth RM250.
